Meet our team

Robin Bourne-Taylor
MEng Oxon, MEd, CGC, OLY
Robin rowed at Oxford winning 3 of his 4 Boat races, including in 2003 by one foot. He went on to race for the British Rowing Team in the Athens and Beijing Olympics. After Oxford he served in the British Army, leading soldiers through a kinetic tour of Afghanistan, for which he was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross by HM The Queen.

Robin has had a career in executive and operational leadership across several industries. He was named a 2018 Eisenhower Fellow and global change agent as part of his role leading one of West Africa's most prominent youth development and elite sports organisations.
Ben Burch
MEng, Oxon
Ben rowed at the OUBC for 4 years, winning in 2000 and as President in 2002 and going on to represent GB at the senior World Championships. Ben is the tech development lead and his career spans operations and technology across retail, e-commerce, banking and fitness.

Allegr, the company behind the Rowing App, is named after Ben's daughter who needed open heart surgery at 4 days old. To raise money for research that saved her life, Ben ran 100km. Ben continues to run community engagement and fundraising events all across the UK but spends most of his spare time clocking up hundreds of miles in ultra running.
Our Story
Ben and Robin rowed and won together in the University Boat Race for Oxford, while studying Engineering. They have both been Presidents of the Club and sat at 6 and 7 of the British Eight at the World Championships in Seville in 2002.

Following a career in technology and operations leadership, Ben was looking for a purpose-driven career shift. When his daughter, Allegr, needed life-saving surgery at age 4, Ben set about engaging communities through connection, activity and social engagement, raising money along the way for causes close to his heart.

After his time in the Army, Robin spent 8 years living and working in Ghana. On returning to the UK for good, Robin’s first social interaction after Covid quarantine was to join one of Ben's fundraising ultra runs. A sweaty 100km later, after re-kindling the strength they brought out in each other, they committed to taking the first step with Allegr Ltd, better together.

With a wealth of entrepreneurial, operational and technology experience between them, they have build a community app platform and service. In the Military they support 14 Regiments and a growing community of over 14,000 members. Now they have started a similar path within sport, with the launch of the Rowing App.
